Ashington Speedway

The venue had been first used by Ashington Football Club in 1909, the first Greyhound meeting in 1936, closing in 1964 only to reopen again in 1984

Motor sport was introduced to the venue by Jeff Brownhut who promoted car events there in 1971 and was joined by Geoff Penniket and together they tried Speedway there at in 1972.  

The programme cover on the left is from the first meeting held at the above Venue on 5 April 1972, a challenge match against Birmingham, the second meeting was on the 17 May and that proved to be the last. I understand the stadium was due for demolition in 2006
