Douglas 500cc Engine

Circa 1928/29.

This Douglas engine is a 500cc horizontally opposed lay down twin cylinder engine, the bike had a low centre of gravity, and the rear drive is on the right hand side,  all other bikes of this era it was on the left, this to us may look ‘a bit of a lump’ but it was nevertheless the best of its day.

It may be of interest to note that this engine is sitting in a supporting frame and not as more usual, particularly today, forming part of the frame.
