Len Tupling

President of the World Speedway Riders’ Association then know as the Veteran Speedway Riders’ Association in 1997.

[Now, I have to admit to an almost total failure in researching and collecting information about Len’s speedway career and even less photographic evidence of him riding or in riding gear. This is a sad state of affairs and I think Len deserves better and I would wish to pass on more information than I have thus far managed to collect.

So please help me in setting down for the future the information with regards to Len Tupling’s speedway career so if you can help with information or photos I would be very grateful as would those who use this web site for information about our sport.]

Born Leonard Tupling in 1911 in Rotherham.

He was Captain at Wombwell (South Yorkshire Sports Stadium Sheffield ) and riding there in the 1940’s, I also found reference to his riding for Middlesborough Bears in 1946 and believe he took rides at Newcastle in the same year.

Have learned that he gave up racing following an accident that meant the removal of a thumb and two fingers at Door Moor, Sheffield but I am not sure if this was a riding accident of not.

I am lead to believe that he was also a leading light in the Rotherham and District Motor Club who used to hold Hill Climb and Motor Cycle Scramble meetings at Listerdale.

Then, of course, we know that he was President of the World Speedway Riders’ Association in 1997 but that is a very meagre amount of information to pass down about one of our Presidents and I am hoping that someone can help me out here.
