Ron Butcher born 13th January 1931 in the east end of London a lifelong enthusiast of speedway in general and West Ham in particular.

He was part-way through writing about his love of speedway and had just got as far as his first few team rides when he was sadly taken from us, leaving me with a big personal gap in my life as I was so enjoying his reminiscences and looked forward to each instalment.

His love of the sport was infectious as was his humour if you have not read his work I would check it out now, if you are over a certain age it will bring back memories of your youth and if you are young it will give an insight into live in the middle of the last century.

Ron was a respected member of the World Speedway Riders’ Association.
