Ron Clarke

Born 26 March 1914 in Oxford although he never rode for his home city, instead riding for Lea Bridge in 1938 and Crystal Palace (Glaziers) in 1939.  Joining Odsal, Bradford (Boomerangs) in 1946 following World War 2 where he remained until 1957 becoming the teams Captain.

In 1957 he, along with Oliver Hart & Ron Mason, took over the promotion at Odsal running some open meetings and then when Birmingham left the National League, following a disagreement with the internal running of speedway, the Odsal promotion took over the remaining Birmingham fixtures calling the team the Bradford Tudors.

There are records showing he rode for Sheffield Tigers in 1960 but I have no details.

Appeared twice in the World Championships, 1949 & 1950 achieving 7th place in 1949, Ron had an international career and died 12th June 1981 He was a member of the World Speedway Rider's Association.
