Mr Frank Varey was able to establishing regular league racing at the venue that continued for eighteen years until until the end of the 1988 season.
Following the local tragedy at Hillsborough the Owlerton stadium was closed to all sports the following year and was not to host speedway again until 1991, when after a difficult start they managed to become an established team at an established venue where league racing continues to the present day 2013.
